Meet the Owner & Baker

Jeanie’s on the Prairie is led by Johren Carpenter, a Sidney, MT native with a background in healthcare, biomedical engineering, and artisan baking.

After earning a Master’s in Applied Bioengineering from the University of Washington and spending years working in clinical care and research, Johren found herself drawn back to something simpler: baking for the people she loves. While living in Seattle, she worked as a pastry baker at Grand Central Bakery, developing a respect for the craft, consistency, and quiet rhythm of early mornings in a working kitchen.

Her love of baking started long before graduate school. It began in her Grandma Jeanie’s kitchen, where recipes were shared freely, food was made from scratch, and feeding people was simply how you showed up for them. From her grandmother, Johren learned that good food doesn’t need to be complicated to be meaningful. It just needs to be made with care.
